Rated 4.30/5 ( based on 6123 reviews )
About Lumpini Park In Bangkok
Lumpini Park or Lumphini Park in Bangkok is the city’s first public park. Spread over an area of 142 acres, this multi-purpose park is a great spot to escape the hubbub of Bangkok and enjoy outdoor activities in the fresh air. Lumpini Park in Bangkok is named after the birthplace of Buddha in Nepal. With shaded trails, a large artificial lake, and manicured lawns, it remains one of the popular places in Bangkok.
Lumpini Park History and Location
The park was established in the 1920s by King Rama VI on a patch of land. Earlier, the place was a museum which displayed many products and natural resources. After the First World War, the site was renovated into the first park in Bangkok. Today, Lumpini Park Bangkok Thailand lies in the middle of the main business district, on the north side of Rama IV Road.
The park offers a wide-open public space, plenty of greenery, and playgrounds in the capital of Thailand. It also features an artificial lake where visitors can enjoy boating by renting paddleboats. It’s a relaxing way to soak in the sights and sounds of the area. Walking or jogging on paths, about 2.5 km in length, in the park are popular spots. There are playgrounds for the kids to keep them busy and visitors can also spot some enormous monitor lizards.
Lumpini Park Events and Attractions
Lumpini Park at night comes alive with plenty of aerobic classes, street vendors, music & dance classes, and outdoor recreation. A statue of King Rama VI, built in 1942, commemorates the construction of the place. Bangkok Elder Citizens Club in the Lumpini Hall is a popular spot for elders to relax and exercise. Social dancing courses (free for all) are available on the weekends. Lumpini Youth Center offers various sports and sport training for local children and youth.
The Palm Garden of Lumpini Park is a famous venue for the annual Concert in the Park where the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra performs. Suan Lum Night Bazaar was a popular night market near Lumpini Park which is now located on Ratchada Road. Like any other city park, Lumpini in the early evening is visited by large groups of people doing yoga and aerobics. With so few open spaces in central Bangkok, Lumpini gets really crowded, especially on the weekends.
