How to Reach St. Peter’s Basilica

Bus  

You can use the bus service, which is very cost effective and efficient. You can explore the beauty of the City out of the window. There is a wide network of buses that runs through the city, making it the most convenient of all modes to travel. Therefore, you can reach the Vatican City from almost any part of Rome. There are three most popular bus lines, which can get you to the Vatican. These are Bus 64, Bus 60 and Bus 40. Bus 64 halts at the Basilica and south of the piazza and from any of these bus stops; the Basilica is just a short walk away. You can even confirm the same bus from the bus driver or the local passengers.

Metro

The most convenient and the easiest mode of transportation; especially, if you are going to the Basilica. Travelers find it very easy to understand primarily because there are only two lines for almost 20 years now. However, if you take the Metro Red Line (Line A), you can get reasonably closer to the Vatican as the Ottaviano Stop is in proximity to the Basilica. They are labeled in a manner, which is very easy for the travelers to understand, for example – Ottaviano San Pietro. From here, you would most likely have to take a 10-minute walk to reach the Basilica.

Walking to the City

The weather of Rome is fantastic on most days so you can make the most of it and explore the city on your feet. Though a little cumbersome it may get, but you can explore beautiful edifices like the Colosseum, Termini Station and the Pantheon. There are many beautiful bridges to walk through.

On reaching the Basilica

It is free of cost to enter the main building of St. Peter’s Basilica. However, there is an admission fee if you have to visit the Vatican Treasury or climb the cupola. In the months of April to September, the Basilica remains open from 7 am to 7 pm and in the months of October to March, the timings are 7 am to 6 pm. There is a strict dress code, which needs to be adhered to. Any kind of provocative clothing is barred. Shoulders have to be covered and short clothes are not allowed.
