Nominated as the fourth best city in the world in the year 2007, and since then, tourism in Rome has flourished to a great extent. It was estimated that about 7-10 million people get on an excursion to Rome on an annual basis.
Rome came into the spotlight after the Pope (the head of Roman Catholic Church) started living there. This made the city known for its arts, philosophy, education, and trade. There are plenty of World famous museums such as the Vatican Museum, the Borghese Gallery and much more. Italy is a country with a great history, but other than this, the beauty of some panoramic views and its unique tradition makes it top in the list of tourist from all around the world. Thus, as a result, Rome comes to the third position amongst the most visited cities in entire Europe.
History of Rome
As per the legends, the capital city of Italy was founded in 753 B.C. by Remus and Romulus, who were the twin sons of Mars- the God of War. However, the same idea was dismissed later in the 19th and 20th century. Later, thanks to the archeological findings in the late 20th century, it has been believed that the first inhabitants settled somewhere on the slopes of the surrounding hills, and then grew into an empire encompassing most of the continental Europe and other nearby regions. With the rise of Julius Caesar, the republic status of the region waned, and later the city found its first emperor in Augustus, and flourished during the golden age of peace.
