About Rome Tourism

Rome, the beautiful capital city of Italy is one of the most loved destinations amongst tourists from all across the globe. With a mixture of ruins; awe-inspiring art, and a great street life, Rome tourism is meant to delight one’s soul while they cherish an array of its offerings. If one is a history enthusiast or a culture vulture, this enticing travel destination is there to give them an experience that they might not forget for years. Nominated as the fourth best city in the world in the year 2007, and since then, tourism in Rome has flourished to a great extent. It was estimated that about 7-10 million people get on an excursion to Rome on an annual basis.

Rome came into the spotlight after the Pope (the head of Roman Catholic Church) started living there. This made the city known for its arts, philosophy, education, and trade. There are plenty of World famous museums such as the Vatican Museum, the Borghese Gallery and much more. Italy is a country with a great history, but other than this, the beauty of some panoramic views and its unique tradition makes it top in the list of tourist from all around the world. Thus, as a result, Rome comes to the third position amongst the most visited cities in entire Europe.

History of Rome

As per the legends, the capital city of Italy was founded in 753 B.C. by Remus and Romulus, who were the twin sons of Mars- the God of War. However, the same idea was dismissed later in the 19th and 20th century. Later, thanks to the archeological findings in the late 20th century, it has been believed that the first inhabitants settled somewhere on the slopes of the surrounding hills, and then grew into an empire encompassing most of the continental Europe and other nearby regions. With the rise of Julius Caesar, the republic status of the region waned, and later the city found its first emperor in Augustus, and flourished during the golden age of peace.

Historical Places in Rome

Rome tourism includes various popular monuments to let the history buffs or explorers enjoy a perfect retreat. And, here are some of the best places which one could not afford to give a miss.

Piazza Navona: It is one of the best masterpieces of Baroque architecture. It is like an open restaurant which surrounds the historic place. It attracts a lot of visitors as it is populated by many street cafes, open-air performance, and a vibrant festive atmosphere. Have a sip of the best coffee of your life while enjoying a melodious performance in the background. Being a great place to relax and spend quality time with your partner, it becomes a perfect place to plan a romantic duo for you. It appears in the list of one of the most romantic places in the world.

Colosseum: This place individually attracts about 4 million tourists annually. Initially, this place was called Flavian Amphitheatre. You can click some great pictures here. It includes an affordable ticket which you can buy in advance by booking online to avoid the crowd in the ticket queue. Many parts have been damaged, but the significance of this place has never decreased and even today it proudly stands in its original glory. If you are planning to enjoy tourism in Rome, then make sure this place is included in the itinerary.

EUR: Esposizione Universale Roma is a great masterpiece. It was built on the occasion of celebrating 20 years of Fascism by Mussolini. Though it’s been an underrated attraction of Rome it is worth visiting. It is advisable that you must visit this place if you love the art of architecture.

Vatican Museum: The most popular place in Rome is this museum. It was founded in the 16th century thus; it is one of the oldest museums in the world. The museum features 7km of historical and cultural artifacts. You will love the paintings here as they are very impressive. There are audio Rome tourism guides available at a cheap price. That can be bought to have the complete knowledge of the different famous statues.

Galleria Borghese: You must have heard about the Royal Borghese family. In this gallery, there are some of the most extensive artworks. It gives a tough competition to the Vatican Museum. The gallery is full of Bernini, Raphael, and other creative works like floor tiles from the Colosseum. A good thing about his gallery over Vatican museum is that it only allows 300 people in it at a single time. Thus, you can observe and watch the gallery with good space. One gets a 2-hour session in a ticket which is good enough to visit this. It is advised to buy the ticket in advance.

How to Reach Rome

Read about the best & quickest routes to save time & money, as suggested by our travelers

By Air

Rome has only 2 airports. One is Leonardo da Vinci at Fiumicino. The airport is 32 kms from the city. Ciampino Airport is another Airport. Budget flights land here.

By Train

Best way to reach the city from Fiumicino airport is through Leonardo Express which will drop you at Stazione Terminal. The ticket is of €11. One can also take a taxi. People do not get conned by fake taxi drivers, the fare of a taxi is fixed. It takes €48 from the airport to Central Europe.

From Ciampino Airport there is a crowded and sluggish bus that takes you to the metro station at Anagnina. From there one can take a train to Stazione Terminal or Terravision Bus to the Stazione Terminal.

By Road

Rome has intercity train travels.

Train FR5 runs from Civitavecchia i.e. Rome’s cruise port. Trastevere is a station where one changes to Fiumicino airport. Ostiense is also an interchange station to Rome Metro that will take you to Colosseum.

FR1 is a train from Airport to Stazione Terminal which is cheaper than the Leonardo Express.

There are many trains from Rome which link to other cities of Italy as well. There are 3 kinds of trains:-

Frecciarossa trains are high-speed trains and charge double the fare of normal trains. Intercity trains are normal trains with stoppage at major towns.

Regional trains are the slowest trains and are relatively basic in price.

Ananya's 15 days trip to Rome

I was not happy with how few things were co -ordinated . Received the vouchers end moment leaving very little time to review . Infact the train voucher for venice was created for station very far off my hotel while there was a sation just at the walking distance (100m) from my hotel. I had to bear a
n expense of 50 Euro unnecessarlity for the transfer to hotel from station and i expected atleast a partial refund of my loss which never happened . Also, I had paid for the airport transfer for my return flight and its yet not reimbursed or acknowledged over mail. I just hada verbal and wats app communictaion with Yusuf. Regarding the entry tickets- considering Italy was extremely hot Collosium entry tickets were for 12pm noon , it could have been booked for an early evening or morning , I had to skip it as it was unabearbly hot . And there were lot of other gaps which i think should have been well communicated and discussed with me before they purchased the tickets (entry tickets)
