About Sentosa Island Tour
Sentosa is a resort island based off the coast of Singapore situated just half a kilometer away from the southern coast of the main island of Singapore. The Sentosa island Singapore has a rich variety of flora and fauna native to the island and the resort was built with minimum environmental impact. The island was previously called Pulau Blakang Mati and was renamed to Sentosa in 1972 and was developed as a tourist destination. More than 20 million tourists visit the island every year.

History of Sentosa Island
Its name Sentosa means "peace and tranquility" in the local Malay language, this word is derived from Sanskrit language term Santosha which translates as contentment or satisfaction. British explorers in the 19th century fortified the island as it was a strategic passage into Keppel Harbour. During the Second World War, the island was the site of a battle between Japanese and British forces. Sentosa used to be a British military base and was also used by the Japanese as a prisoner of war camp. In the 1970s, the Singapore government began developing the island as a tourist resort.
Attractions of Sentosa Island
The fourth largest island of Singapore, Sentosa has a 70% rainforest cover and over 200 thousand trees were re-planted when the Resort World Sentosa was constructed. The island also boasts of white sand beach and coral reef by its coasts. The huge number of attractions in Sentosa has been the reason for the huge number of tourists visiting the island every year. Sentosa cable car is the only cable car service in Singapore managed by the Sentosa Development Corporation.
Sentosa Island in Singapore is 15 minutes from the central shopping and business districts of Singapore. There is also the option of boarding the Sentosa Express Monorail and there are bus services in Sentosa to help tourists get to their destination. One can enter the island for free if they walk all the way through the Sentosa Broadwalk. Sentosa also offers a tram service to get around Sentosa Beach.

Beaches at Santosa Island
A 2-km-long stretch of sheltered beach lies on the island’s southern coast. Categorized into three sections named Palawan Beach, Siloso Beach, and Tanjong Beach. Every beach has a unique charm. While Siloso Beach is the island’s most popular beach where there visitors can enjoy outdoor activities such as volleyball, canoeing, rollerblading, etc. Palawan Beach is known as the southernmost point of Asia and is a great place to enjoy local food. Finally, the crescent-shaped Tanjong Beach is located at a secluded place and Tanjong Beach Club attractions many visitors.

By Air
To take a tour of Sentosa, one must visit the island through Singapore. The closest airport to Sentosa is Changi Airport in Singapore. One can book a flight to Singapore from major airports in India and take the preferred mode of transportation. There are taxis, trains and also a free shuttle bus to Sentosa connecting Changi airport Singapore to Sentosa Island.
By Train
The easiest method is to reach Changi Airport by air and take the MRT to reach the Harbourfront station. To reach Harbourfront one has to take the Green line from Tanah Merah Station. After that one needs to get down at Outram Park and take the Purple line to Harbourfront.
Sentosa Express is the monorail service that connects Singapore to Sentosa Island. You can take the MRT on the North-East (Purple) line or the Circle line and get down at the Harbourfront Station. From thereon, one can take the Sentosa Express from the 3rd level of the VivoCity Shopping Mall (Lobby L). The Sentosa Express ticket or the Sentosa Pass will cost 4 SGD. The fee covers the Sentosa Express ticket and the Island admission fee.
By Road
Since 2015, the opening of the India-Myanmar-Thailand has made it possible to reach Singapore through road from India. The 6000+ km journey will take about 200 hours to complete owing to the traffic, road conditions and custom and border checks one has to pass, making the road journey inconvenient. For people who still want to take this route from India, one has to first reach Siliguri in West Bengal, and from thereon one can head towards Thailand from Moreh in Manipur passing through the whole stretch of Myanmar to Myawaddy. After entering Thailand, one can easily head towards Malaysia and reach Singapore and then head to Sentosa.
Alternatively, one can get to Singapore by air and from there, head towards Sentosa Island. Sentosa Island has a well-functioning public transport system. The bus service connects the city of Singapore to Sentosa Island. The bus ticket is all you need to pay, and there is no additional island admission charge. One can take bus no. 123 from central Singapore and from all major MRT stations including Tiong Bahru and Orchard. You can also take buses 65, 80, 93, 188, 855, 10, 30, 97, 100, 131, 143, 145 and 166 to reach the VivoCity.
One can get to Sentosa Island by a taxi, or you can use your private car or hire vehicle. An extra charge is levied on taxis and cars entering the island.
