Piha Beach in Auckland

Piha beach is a coastal area situated on the western side of the Auckland Region. It is home to around 600-700 people, it is jam-packed during the summers and a popular one-day trip location for many Aucklanders and outsiders too. Piha is a village that is 45 minutes west of Auckland. Each end is marked by rugged cliff-like structures and the beach also happens to be a popular surfing region. The currents are said to be both strong and dangerous at times.

There are many things to do in Piha. This beach has surfing lessons and surfing here is a passion for the locals. The waves here are just beautiful to witness or to experience first hand by going into the water, but not too deep. The cliffs just add on to the attraction and make it all the more likely that visitors to New Zealand have this spot on their trip itinerary.

Adventure Activities At Piha Beach

Piha Beach canyoning – Canyoneering here is a great deal of an attraction as many look to spend a day or two exploring the cliffs and their inner regions, where there are streams of water pouring down, making them like mini-potent waterfalls but a great view for a scenery or an outing.

Good accommodation – For accommodation, there are good cottages and caravans, where one can rest after canyoning, surfing or doing a whole bunch of other activities.

There are also paid campgrounds available for those interested in a late night camp-fire to suit their souls.

Lion Rock and climbing it – This rock separates the North and the South part of Piha, both are visible clearly if you climb the rock (101m). Simply a great view atop the rock.

Piha Beach Surfing – As mentioned in the article, surfing can be an amazing way to let go of your stress. There are trained coached here who can teach you surfing. Glide on the board and wait for the waves to carry you onto a land of eternal bliss.

Piha Bowling Club – There is also a different kind of entertainment here, the bowling club. Although unexpected at the beach, it is a great hit here with the locals who are fond of bowling pins at the weekend or on public holidays.

Sunset at Piha – The sunset here can be tantalizing for those who get to or want to experience it. Moreover special if you get to watch it atop the Lion Rock.
