About Goa Gajah In Bali
Goa Gajah in Bali is a Hindu archaeological site, which was built in the 11th century. It is a World Heritage Site since 1995. It is also referred to as Elephant Caves of Bali as they are built very close to the Elephant River in Bali. The Goa Gajah caves are one of the main tourists’ attractions in Bali and therefore, remain quite busy throughout the day.
The Goa Gajah Elephant Caves are often referred as mysterious because a large part of the caves is still unexplored. The Goa Gajah history dates back to 11th century. It is a sacred place for Hindus but Bali Goa Gajah was a place for the Hindus as well as the Buddhists. There are places with carvings of Lord Shiva and Lord Ganesha, while at some places, there are carvings of stupas and chatter.
A Goa Gajah tour is one of its kind, with the narrow caves that have dim to no lighting. On entering the Goa Gajah elephant caves, one may find the statue of Lord Ganesha in the left passage and a statue of the Ling and Yoni in the right passage. One may find a number of worshippers in the cave. As the Ubud Elephant caves are a place of worship, a proper Goa Gajah dress code must be followed in order to respect the feelings of the worshippers. Visitors are required to cover their knees while going through the caves and the various places of worship in the place.
The surrounding gardens and stone steps also add to the beauty of the place, making this Elephant Cave Temple in Bali, one of the best tourist attractions.
