Best Time to Visit
Summer
It is more suitable to allude to the period ranging from December to April as the “dry” season in terms of the climate in Maldives. This is because it doesn’t quite fit our traditional understanding of what the “summer” season is supposed to be. Being out and about on the beaches and in the streets is ideal during this time, as the skies are clear and the temperature is warm, but not punishingly so, ranging from about 26° to 30°, all thanks to the influence of the northeast monsoon winds.
Monsoon
As is the case with the summer, or “dry” season in Maldives, monsoon is best referred to as the “wet” season. This period of weather, lasting from May to November, is influenced by the southwest storm winds bringing with it a bit of a mixed bag in terms of the climate in the region. Considering how low-lying most of the islands here are, the heavier sessions of rain that lash down onto the area may go on constantly for days at a time.
Winter
There is no actual third winter season here in Maldives. It is only about 360 km to the north of the equator, so there is no scope for it to have a true winter like elsewhere on the planet in places that are much further away from it.
How To Reach?
By Air
Most flights that enter the Maldivian airspace tend to have the Velana International Airport on Hulhule Island as their destination. There are no non-stop flights that go here from Bangalore’s Kempegowda International Airport as of right now. Any flights headed towards Maldives from Bangalore take at least a single stop, either in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Mumbai or Colombo, with flight durations taking around 5 hours at least, rising up to 8 or even 10 hours in certain cases. For travel within the bounds of Maldives itself, there is a decently dense network of flights to take you from one part of the country on one island, to another part of the country on another island.
By Train
No infrastructure exists that allows travellers to board a train and get all the way to Maldives from anywhere in India.
By Road
There is no road network or highway that connects India directly to Maldives so people who wish to travel to the islands do not have buses or taxis that will take them there nor is a road trip to Maldives possible.
By Cruise
There may, in fact, be no way to take a train or a bus straight to Maldives, but travelling over the Indian Ocean to the island nation is still a possibility. While the Costa Victoria Cruise starts in Mumbai, it does make stops at both Kochin and Mangalore. The latter in particular is easily accessible from Bangalore, as it is only about 360 km away by road, with rail and air connectivity as well.
