How to Reach Asia from Delhi

By Air: Delhi is connected to multiple destinations in Asia by air. The Indira Gandhi International Airport is the busiest airport in the country and handles over 40 million passengers annually. There are many direct flights to major cities across Asia from here. Destinations like Hong Kong, Tokyo, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Shanghai, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Colombo, Bangkok, Seoul, Kathmandu, Taipei, Bahrain, Kuwait, Muscat, Riyadh, Jinan, Kunming, Sharjah, Doha, and so many more. Many airlines are connected with this airport such as Etihad, Emirates, Lufthansa, Cathay Pacific, Qatar Airlines, Thai Airways and many others. Approximate flight time is from Delhi to any Asian destination is between 4 hours to 7 hours.

By rail: Not many countries in Asia are connected by rail with Delhi. One will have to travel first to the near border destinations first then board the few trains connecting with the other places. One such connection by rail is the Maitree Express from Kolkata to Dhaka. You can take a train from Delhi to Kolkata then board the Maitree Express on to Bangladesh. There is the Agartala to Akhaura train connecting The Samjhauta Express from Delhi to Attari in Pakistan. There are many international railway links that are under progress for instance Manipuri to Vietnam, Manipur to Myanmar, Thailand and Bhutan. Indian railways are also developing a railway link with China from New Delhi. Once the Myanmar railway link is done then it will extend all the way to Singapore too. So from Delhi all you need to do is take a flight or train to the junction which connects the international train onwards.

By Road: It is technically possible to travel by road from Delhi to several destinations across Asia. The India-Myanmar-Thailand route where you can travel by road all the way to Thailand. The best way to travel to China from Delhi is to take the route to Nepal and then to Lhasa, from here to Xining and then anywhere in China. However you will need a visa to China and travel permit for Tibet. You can use the sea bridge to travel to Sri Lanka. You can travel by road to Bhutan by taking a flight to Bagdogra or drive all the way there and then from there on to Bhutan. If you are driving your own vehicle then you must know that the Indian license is not permissible everywhere. You will require special permits to drive in these locations.
