How to reach Andaman & Nicobar Island

If you’re looking to find out the best way to reach the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, you’re in the right place. Situated off the southern coast of India, the tropical islands of Andaman are very popular with tourists. There is a lot to do and see, but what are all the commute options to reach Andaman and which are better than others? Well, let’s dive in!

If you are an Indian national, you will not need any permit to visit the Andaman Islands. However, you will need a license to visit the Nicobar Islands and other tribal areas. You can apply on a prescribed form and address it to the Deputy Commissioner, Andaman District, Port Blair. If you are a foreign national, you can stay in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands for 30 days. If you want to extend it by another 15 days, you will have to get permission to stay from the immigration authorities

How to reach Andaman Nicobar by flight is no big mystery. Daily flights from major metropolitan cities in India include Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Vishakhapatnam. A flight from Chennai or Kolkata typically takes around two hours, and a flight from Delhi or Mumbai takes 4 to 5 hours. The capital city of the Andaman Islands, Port Blair, has an international airport called the Veer Savarkar Airport (IXZ), located just 2 km south of the city centre. It is the only commercial airport in the region. Tourists from Malaysia can reach Andaman directly; however, folks visiting from other countries have to take layover flights from connecting cities from mainland India. Plans to connect more countries to Andaman & Nicobar via air are also underway.

By Sea

Some true adventurers exist amongst us, people who would rather take a ship’s journey to the islands than prefer the comforts of flying. If that is you, we have good news—no need to worry about how to reach Andaman by ship anymore. Travelling the high waters of the sea has never been easier. Ships sail from Kolkata and Chennai harbour for Port Blair 3 to 4 times every month and once a month from Vishakhapatnam. The journey on the sea takes around three days to reach Port Blair, where the ships dock for a couple of days. Schedules for different boats are available a month in advance so that you can be prepared. Sailing the seas can be pretty thrilling, but if you’re unsure about it, it is recommended that you don’t travel by ship. People can sometimes experience motion sickness and vomiting. Moreover, the travel might not be the most comfortable, as the boats are often not roomy and clean enough for a journey spanning 3 to 4 days.

the trip was bitter sweet. First the good : 1. Mr. rashid in port blair was extremely courteous and provided exceptional services. First day our itinerary had light show in cellular jail however the same could not be completed due to rainfall. however even without asking mr. rashid arranged the ti

The owner there was extremely polite. 2. the resort at havelock was a beautiful property and photoshoot at radhanagar beach was very beautiful. Radhanagar beach was very beautiful and serene.. 3. Mr surojit at neil island provided good hospitality even while he himself was struck with fever. The bad: 1. Day 1 was disaster due to bad weather and poor maintenance/ arrangement of tourist spots by govt in port blair. 2. our seats in ferries from port blair to havelock and neil were in the middle thus offering no access to sea view. Seat selection by travel agency could have been better. 3. Due to bad road conditions , Natural bridge at neil was closed and all the sunset views were shrouded by clouds. Though if not for natural bridge (about which I don't know) i think one can skip neil island as there is nothing much to see here. The ugly: 1. The stay at pearl park beach resort at neil was disastrous. The staff as well as food at the resort there is pathetic. the resort is at a very good location. except for that evrything there is bad. the maintenance, cleanliness . This was further ruined by a very poor selection of rooms by travel agency. even though i explicitly told that i wanted a luxurious stay at havelock and neil, the rooms at neil were worse than any room i have ever stayed , including any oyo room. How to reach Andaman from Mumbai?

Direct flights from Mumbai to Andaman are available daily and take three hours and thirty minutes to reach Port Blair. Flights are the most comfortable mode of travel, but one could also plan a sea journey. Reach Chennai by train and board a ship from there.
